The 11+ mathematics exam assesses problem-solving ability and the mathematical knowledge children develop throughout Key Stage 2.
The 11 Plus maths exam is designed to test the mathematical understanding children develop during Years 3–6. Most questions are based on topics already covered in the primary school curriculum.
For families preparing for grammar school entrance exams, building confidence in core maths concepts is essential for achieving strong results.
Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios
Time calculations and money problems
Metric measurements (length, mass and capacity)
Graphs, charts and data interpretation
Sequences, patterns and introductory algebra
Many children aged 9–10 struggle with mastering the four core arithmetic operations. These skills form the foundation for most questions in the 11 Plus maths exam.
Flashcards can be a fun and effective way to practise mental maths. Create cards numbered from 1 to 100 and use them to generate quick arithmetic questions for children.
Shuffle the cards and select two numbers. Ask your child to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication or division problems using those numbers.
Two players draw cards and add the numbers together. The first player to reach a total of 200 wins.
Draw two numbers and subtract the smaller from the larger. Solve as many questions as possible within three minutes.
Choose a number from 1–12 and sort cards into divisible and non-divisible groups.
